For my course 93% of students are still working in circus arts a year after graduation.
finding people who are into the same weird shit as you is so great it’s like yes I can finally be my true weird self and they understand you
I love circus school
This was my individual piece from my NCCA audition.
Ahhhhhhhh I love
Don’t you love when things are mutual and you never have to stress or seek acceptance because you know that your other is crazy about you? I’m so lucky, I’m living a dream. I’m in lust with a circus boy.
venting
Im so fucking happy I can’t stop crying.
“Why circus?” Because ITS FUN! I’m 20 and Im having the time of my life. I have nothing to lose and Im still finding myself.
Every day I learn something new about my self and my body and the mad mad universe we dwell in.
Last weekend I went to a music festival, by myself (with annoying company so i ditched them) I didn’t enjoy most of the sets, I rode a ferris wheel by myself and I couldn’t even try to be a mac miller groupie because I was on my period and feeling bitchy
I go to music festivals to calm my nerves and find my plur after the harsh reality of life pulls me back to earth every once in a while (until i find my plur again)
I was highly distraught because I spent a lot of money to go to this festival and I didnt have a good time whatsoever. The crowd was less than rowdy, very rude and they weren’t there to make friends. The energy was just aggressive and it was bringing me down. I spent this past week a little bummed about it because it was such a waste of time and money and I could have spent Halloween weekend a number of different ways.
I’ve been working with my acro partner and his trainer for 4 days now and I’m so so so satisfied with life
Friday after class I went out to dinner and to get gelato and went to open gym and made a few friends and played on a trampoline :) I love trampolines and I had a lot of built up energy I released
It was really relaxing being around Joe and Niko because they’re both mid 40′s, successful and enthusiastic about the lives they live. There was no pressure to say something clever or to look cute because we weren’t trying to impress each other or gain respect. it was simply implied that we were impressed by each other and that we had mutual respect.
They bought me gelato and smoothies and breakfast sunday morning. They didn’t let me open doors for myself and they waited for me to get my food to start eating. :)
Saturday they picked me up for the workshop and I felt totally included the entire time. Niko used me for demonstrations and he was my partner for warm ups and hand stand drills. Joe worked with me all weekend even though he could have worked with much more experienced flyers. They both have such a positive teaching technique and I never got discouraged.
Saturday night we went and saw a lil local circus show and I had my mind blown by the trapeze acts.
Sunday they picked me up and we had breakfast and went to the gym. Niko gave me a thera band for my birthday (in April) and taught me how to stabilize my shoulders. I got to know everyone else at the workshop, and they are the most fabulous amazing loving kind interesting group of adults, coming together to get strong and get better and because they just love acro.
Nearly everyone seemed to be 30+ and they were all sexy. Everyone came together to help each other and encourage each other and spot each other and just socialize in a playful environment.
They greet each other with hugs and kisses and its totally normal. I had a conversation with someone and he said he does acro because,
“Most people are missing something in their lives, and that is physical touch that isn’t sexual.”
Touching other people is highly therapeutic and simply makes you feel good. I had never thought of it that way but I know that is one of my favorite parts about circus, and cheerleading and partner stretching– the physical touch
Friday I told my partner that I was considering learning to teach acro in the future and by Sunday I was absolutely convinced that this is something I’m going to do for the rest of my life.
I remember the moment I decided I was going to pursue a career in circus, and here I am now.
Today I decided I’m going to become an acro guru. Niko started doing and teaching acro when he was about my age and he’s now in his 40′s and he doesn’t even have a home.
He travels across the WORLD teaching acro in everywhere you can imagine because he’s established himself as a respected acro instructor.
I’ve only been doing acro for a month and a half now and after this weekend I am sure that I will never stop.
Everyone in the acro community knows each other and they’re constantly traveling to different acro jams and workshops and conventions internationally. I don’t think I will ever spend money going to a music festival ever again, I will now be going to acro festivals, and any types of acro events I can get my hands on.
I found my niche, I found my people, and I’m so absolutely beaming with excitement about it. Ugh the kind beautiful hearts I got to experience this weekend really changed my perspective. Im slowly finding little pieces of myself every day and this is a very important piece. A piece of peace
